Is it possible to have a beautiful garden in the winter?

Of course! We just have to choose plants that can survive low temperatures and do not freeze. Today I will show you some of the plants in my garden and yard that can withstand a heavier winter. I’ll show the other plants that are for a warmer climate and do not tolerate lower temperatures of -5 ° in the next article.

What plants to put in the winter garden?

Ornamental cabbage or Ornamental kale (Brassica oleracea acephala)

I chose it because it looks as beautiful as a flowering plant. With these colors in purple and green, the yard looks great even in winter. There are varieties of other colors. Very easy and unpretentious for growing a plant. It also withstands freezing temperatures.

Heath / Heather / Scotch heather (Calluna Vulgaris)

An evergreen low plant that blooms from autumn and all winter. There is a variety of colors. As you can see in the photos I have several colors and so the garden looks even more beautiful. It resists the low winter temperatures and makes the winter garden very beautiful. You can put it in the garden, outdoors in a pot or on the balcony.

Sempervivum (Hens
and Chicks)

Evergreen shrub with small green leaves. It can be formed in different ways. To be planted in the garden, to be shaped as a decorative curb or in a pot. It’s nice to have green in the winter in the yard and with this plant, it’s easy to do it.

Boxwood (Buxus Sempervirens)

A small, slow-growing evergreen shrub that can be shaped in various forms. I like boxwood the most in the form of topiary, ball, and cone. Again like the other plants, I showed you here is very easy to take care of.

Yucca

There are types of Yucca that are specifically adapted for areas with colder climates. It is an evergreen plant that gives a tropical view of the garden. Now we live in Spain and I think these yuccas that I show you may tolerate warmer temperatures. But before we lived in Bulgaria where temperatures dropped to -20 ° we had a yucca in the yard that was well tolerated by the cold.

These are my winter garden plants that can be grown in colder areas.
In a future article, I will show you the other plants that make the yard and the garden beautiful in winter. I divide them into two articles because the other plants are for a warmer climate when there is no cold and heavy winter.

I hope you enjoyed this article and that I gave you ideas about how your winter garden looks beautiful.
